Visit Boston, Massachusetts

August 16th, 2010 § 0 comments

I recently had the opportunity to check out the city of Boston with a few friends. I didn’t pass that up and before I knew it I was making the 9ish hour drive to the east coast and into the city of Boston Massachusetts.

First Impressions

When I arrived in Boston, the first thing that came to mind was just how cool looking the city is. The buildings and structures there look amazing. The architecture of almost every building has an antique design to it and you can tell this city is full of history. The first thing I did was drive right into the city and see what there was. Driving is pretty good in the city and there doesn’t seem to be impossible traffic jams everywhere. The inner city is decorated with parks, shopping areas, street performers, amazing places to eat, and many other things that keep your eyes moving in every direction. Also, a thing you may notice right away is how clean the city is; every night between 2 and 7 they have street cleaners that go out and pick up the garbage and dirt from the street. This helped make the city so much more inviting and good looking. After spending a few minutes walking around and listening to people, you can see that the people of Boston seem to be pretty nice and you wouldn’t feel awkward asking a question or inquiring about something in the city.  The overall city was very welcoming and enjoyable to be in.

What To Do

Boston is a pretty big place, so the first thing we did was scope out some places to check out:

There are some obvious things to do such as just going downtown. You’ll find many places to shop, some great walking areas and again, some great places to eat. As you walk through downtown you’ll start on a historic path that will lead you through different cemeteries. This is pretty interesting as you’ll see some historic greats such as Samuel Adams.

One of the interesting things about Boston is the amount of universities there are in the city such as M.I.T., Harvard, University of Massachusetts, and the many colleges in the city. Checking out some of these places won’t disappoint you at all. We checked out both Harvard and M.I.T. and both had some great things about them such as the library and campus at Harvard, or the building design of M.I.T. You should take the time to check out one of the universities there if you’re in the city.

Want to experience the people and the food more? I would suggest going to just one place: the Marketplace. It is located just north of downtown, directly next to City Hall. You’ll find three buildings there: South Market, Quincy Market, and the North Market. Each houses some great shops, awesome restaurants, and awesome live street performers. What is also amazing is that it is located right next to the harbor which is home to more great restaurants, harbor tours, and city tours. This is the place to go if you’re looking for something to do and want a great experience.

One of the great things I found about Boston however, is that you didn’t have to go to a specific place to experience something new. We ending up just walking the city one night to see what’s going on and we ending up right in the middle of a live play happening in a park. We walked a bit more and ended up at some pretty busy scenes with night clubs, piano bars, jazz clubs, more harbors and more. The night life in Boston isn’t the most live throughout the whole city, but they do have some awesome places to keep you busy during the night and day.

I would recommend Boston for anyone to visit and check out. The people, city, food, entertainment and overall experience make it a city you should visit in your lifetime.
